2020 Wanxiang Blockchain Hackathon Kicks Off

The 2020 Wanxiang Blockchain Hackathon has begun on the evening of October 23. The three-day competition(October 23–25), hosted by Wanxiang Blockchain Labs, sponsored by Protocol Labs, SNZ, Qtum, Acala Network, and supported by DoraHacks and Ethplanet, has attracted over 100 blockchain developers and enthusiasts both inside and outside China.

This year’s Hackathon is the first ever competition conducted both online and offline during the blockchain week, aimed at creating a free communication platform for global blockchain developers and enthusiasts without any space restrictions and time limit. Under the theme of “Innovating North Bund with Blockchain+”, the competition is focusing on the North Bund, Hongkou District, a cornerstone underpinning Shanghai’s “Golden Triangle”. With “Blockchain technology in the construction of the North Bund Innovation Ecological Harbor” as the main proposition, the competition is gathering top hackers to create new ideas of North Bund construction by combining blockchain with artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, cloud computing, 5G and other new digital technologies.

Sun Xiaowei, Deputy Director of the North Bund Sub-District Office of Hongkou District was present at the event site, where she explained in detail the current difficulties of the North Bund governance.

How will blockchain help transform the North Bund? This year our major topics include community governance, e-government, urban management, building economy, smart elderly care, and smart Party building. We expect contestants to think about how to reduce the cost and increase the efficiency of the North Bund governance by combining blockchain with other new technologies.

Also, Protocol Labs, SNZ, Qtum, and Acala Network announced challenging sponsor propositions at the opening of the competition, including DeFi application, Layer2 and onchain governance.

Apart from Hackathon topics, sponsors also announced attractive rewards. Protocol Labs announced to offer a total bonus of up to $10,000 and the opportunity to join Filecoin Frontier Accelerator. The team selected for Filecoin Frontier Accelerator will receive an initial investment of $20,000.

Qtum promised an ecological fund reward worth a million dollar, and each team that goes for Qtum’s topic is entitled to apply for the reward. Each development team can be allocated a reward ranging from 25,000 to 50,000 US dollars. The specific prize amount will depend on the degree of creativity and completion of the project.

Judges this year are Liu Changlin, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Committee of Hongkou District, Tang Yi, Vice President of Qiming Venture Partners, Wang Jianjiang, CTO of Acala & Polkawallet, Jia Yaoqi, Parity Asia Technical Director, Zhong Wenbin, Qtum (China) CTO, Liang Qiang, SNZ CTO, Jennifer Jiang, LatticeX Foundation CSO, Liao Yaling, General Manager of Ecological Group, Wanxiang Blockchain, and Li Xin, Co-founder and CTO of IPFS Force. They will make professional comments on the performance of the contestants from the perspectives of project feasibility, completion, social value, etc., and finally determine the winners of the first, second, and third prizes, the North Bund Outstanding Idea Award, the Sponsor Special Award and other awards.

Open day offers the stage to exchange ideas and host activities. The 6th Blockchain Global Summit (October 27–28)
