Calling Developers to Build! Ethereum Communities to Host Bethink Shanghai Web3 Hackathon
The 21st century, home to both technological and societal upheavals, creates a rapidly-changing world of disruptive technological leaps. We, as human beings, are somehow trapped in a dilemma where the curiosity and concerns about unknown technologies always come hand in hand.
Although history has repeatedly proved that technological progress will always do good to the human society, it does not justify the current trust crisis led by frequent leakage of personal information and the monopoly of technology giants. The blockchain network, keeper of the cypherpunk spirits, is also criticized for being more and more centralized. That leaves us wonder: are we getting technology on the right track?
Building a resilient, robust network has long been Ethereum’s vision as the “world computer”, where technology means more than just increasing wealth and efficiency; it is about serving the common interest of humankind and building a fairer, safer, and more transparent society.
Hosted by DappLearning, ECN, ETHPanda, ETHPlanet, Panta Rhei, SCBC, and WTF.Academy (in alphabetical order), Bethink Shanghai Web3 Hackathon will take place from October 13 to 15 at Hongkou Technology Financial Building during 2024 Shanghai International Blockchain Week. Supported by Wanxiang Blockchain Labs and International Art Science Research Institute, the Hackathon, with awards of up to 100,000 CNY, will focus on “Beyond Hacking — Technology for Good”, inviting the world’s top hackers and developers to develop solutions that will help rebuild trust, defend the system, and address privacy matters.

Three Tracks to Explore Technology for Good
The hack challenge will be announced at the ceremony of Bethink Shanghai Web3 Hackathon, with the main theme revolving around the following ideas:
Rebuild Trust
We encourage developers to think about how to rebuild social trust systems through technological means. Ideas include but not limited to privacy protection (zero-knowledge proof, AI, etc.), transaction freedom (DeFi and payment), credit/reputation systems, etc.
Defend the System
Tools or applications to defend our system, systems that promote open source and public goods, and fair distribution mechanisms (MEV mitigation, decentralization).
Human Verification
How do you define human and non-human? It seems to be a matter of society, ethics, laws, and technology. We encourage developers to explore the border of new technologies through solutions combining art with technology.
